In this step by step guide, we will show you how to easily add a navigation menu in WordPress.

  1. Login to WordPress

    Login to WordPress, you can find it at: yourdomain.com/wp-admin

  2. Appearances

    Menus

    Appearances >> Menus

    You can find all of your settings under the appearances tab under the menus section.

  3. Add menu items

    Select pages you wish to add to the Navigation by clicking on a page item(s) and pressing “Add to Menu”

  4. Create Menu

    If not added already; name and “create” your menu. You can reorganizing/silo the menu list by dragging them to the correct order.

  5. Dropdowns

    To add drop-downs, you will need to drag your menu slightly to the right under the parent item.

  6. Automatically add Menu items

    Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu

    Ensure the “Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu” item is left unchecked.

    It can become troublesome when adding a bunch of content, adding it to your navigation.

  7. Save your settings

    Save your adjustments.

  8. Manage Locations

    On the second tab, select Manage Locations. This will allow you to add a different menu to header and footer navigations of your website.

  9. Check your work

    Its always a good idea to check your work and make sure your navigation looks good on the front end of your website.
